Youth and Artificial Intelligence: Where We Stand is particularly focused on how youth (12-18-year-olds) interact with and are impacted by AI.

This publication reviews recent literature and examples on artificial intelligence and its impact on the lives of youth in domains such as education, health and well-being, creativity and entertainment, and the future of work.

This piece is not intended to be a comprehensive discussion of all the challenges and opportunities that AI presents for young people; instead, the spotlight aims to highlight some of the team’s initial exploratory learnings and questions around the interplay between AI and youth. The main aim is to share preliminary observations as well as highlight questions for a concerned public audience and provide different entry points for further exploration our team is pursuing.

Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society

The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society is a research center at Harvard University that focuses on the study of cyberspace. Founded at Harvard Law School, the center traditionally focused on internet-related legal issues.

Alexa Hasse

Alexa is a Ph.D. student at Tufts' Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development. At Eliot-Pearson, Alexa is a member of the Developmental Technologies Research Group, where she explores ways to cultivate young children's (ages 4-7) understanding of computation through engaging moral, cognitive, and social-emotional dimensions.

Sandra Cortesi

Sandra Cortesi is a Fellow at the Berkman Klein Center and the Director of the Youth and Media project. She is responsible for coordinating the Youth and Media’s policy, research, and educational initiatives, and is leading the collaboration between the Berkman Center and UNICEF.

Andres Lombana-Bermudez

Andres Lombana-Bermudez is a researcher, designer, and digital strategist working at the intersection of digital technology, youth, citizenship, and learning. His approach is transdisciplinary and collaborative, combining ethnographic and quantitative research methods, design-based research, and co-design.

Urs Gasser

Urs is the Director of Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. His research and teaching activities focus on information law, policy, society issues, and the changing role of academia in the digitally networked age.
