Call for Mentors and Fellows in the Editorial Board: six sectors, twelves voices on participation
13 October 2026
Overview
SALTO PI is launching the Editorial Board, a remote European editorial community that will produce, curate and update content for the Participation Resource Pool (PRP) on the horizontal priority “Participation in Democratic Life, Common Values and Civic Engagement”. For its first cycle, running from until December 2027, we are recruiting twelve members: an experienced Sector Mentor and a young Editorial Fellow for each of the six sectors of Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. These are Higher Education, School Education, Vocational Education and Training, Adult Education, Youth, and Sport.
What?
Each sector is covered by an Editorial Desk, in which the mentor and the fellow work together as co-producers. Across the cycle, each desk publishes four to eight short items, ranging from analyses, case studies, interviews and opinion pieces to one-pagers and infographics. Each desk also keeps the sector’s existing PRP entries accurate and up to date.
- The Sector Mentor brings sectorial expertise to the desk. Mentors draft materials, review the desk’s items for accuracy and relevance, and support the fellow with sources, contacts and feedback. The fee is EUR 3.000 for the full cycle.
- The Editorial Fellow brings the perspective of young people. Fellows propose and draft their own items, co-write the Board’s editorial strategy and contribute to projects that improve the PRP itself. The stipend is EUR 1.800 for the full cycle.
Both roles are part-time, with an average workload of one to two days a month, and all work is done remotely and in English. Payment is made in two instalments, in June–July 2027 and December 2027. The cycle includes one mandatory in-person meeting of three to four days in January–February 2027, with all costs covered by SALTO PI. Members may also be invited to the Participation Forum in Tallinn at the end of 2027, with all expenses paid, and to other relevant events across Europe.
Who?
Applications are individual, and each person may hold only one role on the Board. All applicants must:
- be resident in an EU Member State (residents of neighbouring countries may also be considered);
- have a C1 command of English;
- have experience in the one or two sectors they apply for;
- be available for the whole cycle (including the in-person meeting).
Mentors should bring proven experience in the sector, whether gained in practice, research, education, networks or programme and policy work. Fellows must be at least 18 and remain under 35 for the whole cycle. Mentors can be of any age.
Timeframe
Application deadline: 8th of November 2026, 23:59 Tallinn time
Evaluation and selection: 9th –13th of November 2026
Kick-off: second half of November 2026
In-person meeting: January–February 2027
End of the cycle: December 2027
How to Apply
Applications are submitted in English through the form for the relevant role: the Sector Mentors form or the Editorial Fellows form. Both ask for your motivation and experience, your proposed topics and a short writing sample. Applications sent by other means, as well as incomplete or late submissions, will not be considered.
For any questions, please write to christopher.radovici@harno.ee with the subject line “Editorial Board – Mentors – Inquiry” or “Editorial Board – Fellows – Inquiry”.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications are assessed against three weighted criteria:
- experience and motivation in the selected sector(s): 50%;
- proposed topics, together with the mentoring approach (mentors) or the dissemination plan (fellows): 25%;
- writing sample: 25%.
Applications are ranked separately for each sector. One mentor and one fellow are selected per sector, and a reserve list is kept for the whole cycle. Only selected and reserve-listed applicants will be contacted, so if you have not heard from us by 22 November 2026, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Additional Information
SALTO PI particularly welcomes applications from people of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds, as well as from young people with fewer opportunities. AI may be used under human oversight for minor support, such as rephrasing or formatting, but the writing sample must be your own work. All outputs are published under the authors’ own names. Copyright passes to SALTO PI, and the outputs are released Open Access under a Creative Commons licence.
