Maru is a chatbot that aims to support and empower people who are experiencing, witnessing or fighting online harassment by providing real advice and resources from experts and activists. It was co-created with young activists who are passionate about promoting internet freedoms and safety. The name ‘Maru’ translates as ‘Cloud Space’ in Sesotho and was chosen by one of Maru’s young activist co-creators.
Everyone interested can chat with Maru to learn more about online harassment, how to protect from it, report and respond to it, or support others going through it. Maru is currently only available in English, but there are plans for it to be translated in the near future.
