On the 1st of June, the European Commission has nominated Ms Biliana Sirakova for the newly created post of EU Youth Coordinator, in order to reinforce the cross-sectoral cooperation and knowledge sharing in the field of youth amongst the European Commission services.
Ms Biliana Sirakova will focus on strengthening the inter-sectorial cooperation within the European Commission on issues affecting young people (e.g. employment, education, health, climate, democracy, culture) as well as facilitating more exchanges and knowledge-sharing between the services on issues related to youth.
According to the news source, Ms. Sirakova’s role will be that of working closely with different youth stakeholders, listening to their concerns and suggestions, and carrying forward their messages within the Commission. Her role will help to raise up, inside the Commission, key messages shared by young people.
The creation of the Youth Coordinator post is an important step towards creating better synergies between the various actions carried out by the Commission services for the benefit of young people.
The post of a European Coordinator of Youth Activities within the European Commission is part of the Commission proposals in the framework of the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027. The proposal was welcomed by the Member States with the Council Resolution of November 2018 as well as by the youth sector.
