Join the Online Panel “Digital Rights”, 7 March 2023

13 February 2023

Digital Rights is the vital subject coming up for the fifth series of six panels hosted by SALTO Participation and Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI) and SALTO Inclusion and Diversity Resource Centre (SALTO ID). The online panel will take place on 7 March 2023, at 13:00 CET.

With all of us – and especially young people – increasingly spending large parts of our lives online, the topic of digital rights has moved high up the agenda. Digital rights are essentially human rights, but online/in a digital space. Everyone should have the right to access the internet, and when online, they should be free from discrimination and feel safe to express themselves.

With 3 experts in the field of digital rights, this panel will delve into the latest academic research on the topic, as well as hear from the speakers – themselves academics and youth workers – with in-depth knowledge of digital rights. During the panel discussion, they will discuss the importance of digital rights and how digital transformation can ensure the rights of young people online.

What are digital rights?

Digital rights are human rights! Each person should have access to key universal human rights, such as the right to freedom of expression, or the right to be free from cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or the right to privacy. Many human rights are brought into sharp focus in our interactions online, where – especially for some marginalised groups – hatred and bullying can be rife. Even access to the internet itself can be argued to be a human right, given the online worlds in terms of communities, participation, education and work that such access opens up.

This is the key topic that our panellists will delve into during the panel on Digital Rights. Want to know more? Come along to our event and join the debate!
