Online course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”

Year of production: 2021

UNESCO and UNITAR jointly launched a new, short online learning course on AI and Human Rights for youths aged 16 to 24. Experts break down complex concepts about AI into straightforward activities built around our daily technology interactions. The course focuses on how freedom of expression, right to privacy and the right to equality are impacted using AI.

The online course is free for anyone interested and includes a total of 9 online sessions.

UNESCO is working to harness AI for sustainable development across education, the sciences, culture, communication and information, leading reflections around pressing concerns related to the rapid development of AI, from a Human Rights and ethics perspective in line with its global mandate.

This course was also a source of experiment where UNESCO, UNITAR and SALTO PI invited volunteer translators around the world to co-translate the course to their native language. This project lasted for 6 months, involved 49 translators and reviewers and resulted in translations to 20 languages.
