The third in a series of 6 online panel sessions on “Inclusive and Participatory Digital Transformation” will focus on Digital Sustainability. The events are hosted by SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI) and SALTO Inclusion and Diversity Resource Centre (SALTO I&D).
Save the date for the next panel event, “Digital Sustainability”, 29 November 2022, 13:00 CET
With 3 experts, Kris De Decker, Gerry McGovern and Kristina Wiese, in the field of digital sustainability, this panel will delve into the latest academic research on the topic, as well as hear from the speakers – themselves academics, practitioners and policy experts with in-depth knowledge of digital sustainability. During the panel discussion, they will discuss what makes a sustainable digital transformation and how such a transformation can help society meet its global sustainability goals
What is it?
Digital sustainability is about deploying digital technologies in ways which push forward the sustainability agenda (e.g. the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals). If used effectively, digital technologies have huge potential to help us reduce our impact on the environment and, for example, to help us tackle devastating climate change. If, on the other hand, society does not grasp the opportunity that a sustainable
digital transformation poses, the
digital transformation may not realise its potential and bring the promised societal benefits, from progress in education, health, equity and prosperity to the reduction of environmental degradation.
